Welcome to the second installment of our Android tech tips! This tip comes from Richard Baker, who wishes the Swiftkey app were available on the iPhone.
Swiftkey uses artificial intelligence to help you type faster. Over time, the app learns about your writing style and can predict the words that you’re likely to use. The best explanation for how Swiftkey works is this video:

Last week, we got a request for more Android tech tips. I know we have been biased towards the iPhone in past posts, and I hope to make it up to you in this 4-part series of Android tech tips!
To help with this series, I consulted Neil Jones, our token android user (Thanks Neil!). His first tip: Syncing pictures to your computer– without having to plug in.
According to Neil, no magical solution exists for getting your pictures to sync with your computer. The best way around this annoyance is to use Dropbox. Dropbox is a self-described “magic pocket,” where you can store files and photos between your phone, computer, and the Dropbox website. Dropbox works very hard to keep all of the folders exactly the same. For example, when you add a photo to Dropbox from your android phone, it will immediately sync with the Dropbox … Keep reading

If you are the victim of a crime, usually the first thing you do is contact the police or proper authorities. But what if that crime is spam? Spam is illegal, but where can you report it? I don’t think 911 works in this case. However, you’re in luck; there IS a place to report email scams and fraud.
It’s called the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), and it is a partnership between the FBI, National White Collar Crime Center, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance. You can file a complaint directly from this website, and you can also explore other resources that will educate you about the latest internet crime schemes.
If your office does not have a spam filter, we highly recommend you consider N-Care Spam Filtering. Spam is estimated to cost $712 a year PER EMPLOYEE. How much is it costing you?

Have you ever wanted to jot down a quick note, but there’s not a pen or piece of paper in sight? If you’re like me, you may have even tried using your iPhone to record a quick note, until App Overload hits.
Here’s a scenario you might relate to:
Your Boss: ”We need to send four boxes of widgets to customer A, three boxes to B, and two boxes to C by Friday. Write that down.”
You: ”Sure thing!” Let me just jot this down in my iPhone….Wait, where exactly should I write this down?
Email? I could send the note to myself, but it takes time to pull up a new blank email, type in my email address and think of a subject line. No, that won’t work. How about Evernote? Evernote is great, but they’re going to ask me to categorize the note and mark it with tags. … Keep reading

I recently read this article from USA Today about a new kind of web content filter created just for parents called MouseMail. MouseMail filters email and text messages for inappropriate words and unknown contacts. I think this is a great tool for parents to keep tabs on their kids’ safety without having to go through their emails and cell phones. MouseMail will also offer a premium service for parents to track mentions of their child’s name on Facebook and other social networks, in hopes of preventing cyberbullying.
From the USA Today article:
The system is “designed to help a parent manage their child’s relationship with the Internet and their relationship, in turn, to their child,” says Les Ottolenghi, chairman of the board of Safe Communications.
MouseMail’s free Web-based e-mail features will be available Thursday at MouseMail.com; the free text message filtering applications will launch that day on most major … Keep reading

Last year, I posted a Tech Tip covering 3 Technology Predictions for 2010. Did they come true? Keep reading to find out. Also, the Nexxtep team gives you their Technology Predictions for 2011.
1. There will be a marriage between e-reading devices such as the Amazon Kindle and tablet PCs. Ideally, most people would like to carry only one electronic device with them. A marriage between the popular e-readers and tablet PCs would simplify our lives.
Did this come true?
Sort of…
Did someone say iPad? With almost 10 million units sold in 2010, there is no doubt that tablet devices are here to stay. However, do the iPad and similar devices really simplify our lives? They’re not powerful enough to replace your laptop, and they can’t make phone calls. It may be small, cool, and useful, but the only thing it … Keep reading
